Hi there! If you were interested in commissioning me this year and signed up to my mailing list, you're probably wondering what happened after my previous email titled "Returning Soon", sent on August 29th. You may have figured out that it had something to do with my pregnancy 😅
I was all ready to go and preparing to open commissions on the weekend of the 7th of September. I was even considering sending out the notification of opening on the morning of the 7th. But I had a regular pregnancy checkup on the 2nd, in which my belly was measuring as too small. So I had an ultrasound and a bunch of tests done on the 4th, and I went to get the results on the 7th.
Well, the results turned out positive for a condition called pre-eclampsia. It can be a pretty severe pregnancy complication where the placenta isn't functioning properly, your baby doesn't grow big enough or have enough fluid around them, and it causes your blood pressure to get too high.
I was admitted to hospital on the 7th, and my blood pressure just kept rising and the doctors weren't able to keep it stabilised, and the only cure for it is to remove the placenta. Which means also removing the baby!
My baby was due on Halloween, but she arrived via urgent c-section on Friday the 13th of September instead! She was determined to be a spooky baby 😂
She was in the hospital for a month, and we've now been at home for 2 months. To say it's been a rollercoaster would be an understatement.
Things are still really tough at the moment, but improving. She's very healthy and doesn't have any issues from being premature besides still being quite small. She's still currently feeding every 2-3 hours and she's around the height of the "purple crying" phase, so it's still pretty full-on at the moment. Once she's more settled and sleeping for longer periods of time, I'm sure I'll be able to finally open again for some small commissions! 😊
